The Qualified Employee Program consists of a series of training modules specific to your plan/site which will provide plant personnel with the electrical safety techniques necessary to operate and maintain plant electrical systems. This electrical safety compliance taining will assist in maintaining compliance with OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910.269 "Generation, Transmission, and Distribution", 29 CFR 1910 Subpart S - Electrical and other applicable OSHA standards which reference electrical safety.
QEP-03: Fatal Currents
Purpose:
This module provides the participant with the knowledge of the typical cause of electrical shock, the effects of electrical shock to the human body, the types of injuries a person can sustain when electrical shock is experienced, the factors that determine the extent of damage from electrical shock to the body, and how the resistance of the body changes during different environmental conditions.
Objectives:
The employee will be able to:- Define or describe using your own words the definition of; ampere, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, current, defribulation, electrical resistance, and voltage.
- Describe in your own words the four basic ways a person can be shocked by electricity
- State the characteristics and factors that determine the extent of injury accompanying an electric shock
- State the two primary injuries caused by electric shock to a worker
- Identify and describe the three types of electrical burns
- Recall the skin temperature tolerances for the human body
- Other than burns, describe other physiological effects of electric shock
- State the physiological effects of electric shock at varying levels of electric current
- State and explain the three factors that determine electrical resistance. Give an example of each
