The Qualified Employee Program consists of a series of training modules specific to your plan/site which will provide plant personnel with the electrical safety techniques necessary to operate and maintain plant electrical systems. This electrical safety compliance taining will assist in maintaining compliance with OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910.269 "Generation, Transmission, and Distribution", 29 CFR 1910 Subpart S - Electrical and other applicable OSHA standards which reference electrical safety.



QEP-07: Selection and Use of Personal Protective Equipment for Arc Flash Hazards

Purpose:

This module covers the requirements for personal protective equipment when working on or near electrical equipment with a potential for an arc flash or blast. The module will also give the participant an understanding the methods and techniques used to; mitigate arc flash or blast hazards, protect self and others from arc flash or blast, and minimize personal exposure to arc flash or blast.

Objectives:

The employee will be able to:
  • Describe the typical techniques and methods to mitigate arc flash and blast hazards
  • Describe the techniques used to protect workers from arc flash or blast
  • Explain the factors that increase your exposure to arc flash or blast
  • Explain the preventive maintenance techniques that will help identify and correct situations that may result in ac flash or blast
  • Describe the methods that can be used to minimize your exposure to arc flash or blast
  • Properly select, inspect and wear the correct personal protective equipment for performing work where electrical arc flash or blast hazards may be present.
