The Qualified Employee Program consists of a series of training modules specific to your plan/site which will provide plant personnel with the electrical safety techniques necessary to operate and maintain plant electrical systems. This electrical safety compliance taining will assist in maintaining compliance with OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910.269 "Generation, Transmission, and Distribution", 29 CFR 1910 Subpart S - Electrical and other applicable OSHA standards which reference electrical safety.



QEP-10: Material Handling and Storage

Purpose:

This module covers the requirements for maintaining working space about electrical equipmentand material storage near energized electrical equipment for both qualified and unqualifiedpersons. The module will also give the participant an understanding of the best practices forhandling materials when near energized electrical equipment.

Objectives:

The employee will be able to:
  • Make use of applicable documents to determine the distance restrictions related to voltage when storage is in areas not restricted to unqualified employees
  • Make use of applicable documents to determine the distance restrictions related to voltage when materials stored in areas restricted to qualified persons
  • State the general electrical equipment working space about equipment rules
  • Describe the best practices when handling materials near energized electrical equipment
