The Qualified Employee Program consists of a series of training modules specific to your plan/site which will provide plant personnel with the electrical safety techniques necessary to operate and maintain plant electrical systems. This electrical safety compliance taining will assist in maintaining compliance with OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910.269 "Generation, Transmission, and Distribution", 29 CFR 1910 Subpart S - Electrical and other applicable OSHA standards which reference electrical safety.
QEP-13: Mechanical Equipment
Purpose:
This module covers the requirements for using mechanical equipment in proximity to energized electrical lines or equipment. The module will also give the participant an understanding of their responsibilities and the requirements, precautions, and work practices for critical safety component inspection, use of outriggers, operating mechanical equipment near energized lines or equipment, and duties of the safety observer.
Objectives:
The employee will be able to:- Explain the requirements for critical safety component inspection when using lifting or rotating equipment near energized electrical equipment
- State the general requirements and work practices for using mechanical equipment in proximity to energized electrical lines or equipment
- State the general requirements and precautions for the use of outriggers on mechanical equipment used near energized electrical equipment
- Make use of appropriate documentation to reference the minimum approach distances for operating mechanical equipment near energized lines or equipment
- Discuss the duties and responsibilities of the safety observer when using mechanical equipment in proximity to energized electrical lines or equipment
- State and explain the precautions, techniques and requirements when operating mechanical equipment near energized lines or equipment that can be used to maximize the protection of employees
