The Qualified Employee Program consists of a series of training modules specific to your plan/site which will provide plant personnel with the electrical safety techniques necessary to operate and maintain plant electrical systems. This electrical safety compliance taining will assist in maintaining compliance with OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910.269 "Generation, Transmission, and Distribution", 29 CFR 1910 Subpart S - Electrical and other applicable OSHA standards which reference electrical safety.
QEP-15: Power Generation - Mechanical Systems
Purpose:
This module covers the requirements for a variety of mechanical systems and work practices referencedin 29 CFR 1910.269 (v). The module will give the participant an understanding of the requirements and their responsibilities for the following power plant mechanical equipment and/or systems; water and steam spaces, boiler and pressure vessels, chlorine systems, hydrogen cooled generators and remote, automatic coal and ash handling equipment, and protection against drowning.
Objectives:
The employee will be able to:- Describe the general requirements for working on water and steam spaces
- Cite the general requirements for the inspection of completed work on water and steam spaces
- Cite the general requirements for chemical cleaning of boiler and pressure vessels
- State the general requirements and precautions for chlorine systems
- State the general precautions prior to starting work inside a boiler
- State the general precautions for working on or near hydrogen cooled generators
- State the general requirements, precautions, and work practices for operating remote and automatic coal and ash handling equipment such as; locomotives, conveyers, and coal and ash storage equipment.
- Explain the requirements for protection against drowning.
