The Qualified Employee Program consists of a series of training modules specific to your plan/site which will provide plant personnel with the electrical safety techniques necessary to operate and maintain plant electrical systems. This electrical safety compliance taining will assist in maintaining compliance with OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910.269 "Generation, Transmission, and Distribution", 29 CFR 1910 Subpart S - Electrical and other applicable OSHA standards which reference electrical safety.



QEP-16: Substations

Purpose:

This module covers the general requirements for substations. The module will give the participant anunderstanding of the requirements and their responsibilities for the following substation equipment and/or situations; establishing and maintaining access and working space about electrical equipment, establishing and maintaining the groundingof conductive fencing, removing or inserting draw-out-type circuit breakers, guarding of rooms containing electric supply equipment, guarding of energized parts, and entering an attended substation

Objectives:

The employee will be able to:
  • State and explain the requirements for establishing and maintaining access and working space about electrical equipment
  • State and explain in your own words the requirements for establishing and maintaining the grounding of conductive fencing.
  • Explain and give reasons for the required work practice for removing or inserting draw-out-type circuit breakers
  • State and explain the requirements for guarding of rooms containing electric supply equipment
  • State and explain the requirements for guarding of energized parts
  • Tell the requirements for entering an attended substation
